Starting on July 1, 2026, Medi-Cal will stop covering dental services for some adult members, except for emergencies based on immigration status. This affects members aged 19 and older who do not qualify for federal full-scope Medi-Cal.

To find out if the change applies to you:

Members will keep full-scope Medi-Cal with dental benefits regardless of their immigration status if:

  • Pregnant or within one year postpartum
  • Under age 19
  • Under age 26 and were in foster care on their 18th birthday

If members are enrolled in a Dental Managed Care Plan, they will:

  • Stay enrolled if they are under 19
  • Move to Medi-Cal Dental (fee‑for‑service) if they are:
    • Pregnant or one-year postpartum
    • A foster youth/former foster youth under age 26

If members do not qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal, emergency dental services still include:

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Infections
  • Tooth extractions
